Geriatric Medicine is a specialty that focuses on medical issues and diseases of aging. It is a medical specialty focused on the care and treatment of older persons.
Gerontology addresses aging across the life course. It encompasses the social, psychological, cognitive, cultural and biological aspects of the elderly. Gerontology covers a multidisciplinary field and it is applied to a variety of both careers and professions.
Although gerontology and geriatrics have differing emphases, they both have the goal of understanding aging so that people can maximize their functioning and achieve a high quality of life.
