About ELTIS, Pune

“Literature is one of the most interesting and significant expressions of humanity. ELTIS invites teachers, scholars, experts, and students to participate in this conference to discuss the genres, characters, theories, writers, poets, and more and take away something that would enrich our own experience of Literature even more. The conference will comprise: A Keynote Address Plenary sessions by renowned experts Parallel Workshops of 20 minutes and 40 minutes Parallel paper presentations Parallel round table discussion A Panel Discussion

Call for Papers

Tracks for Paper Presentation:

  • Paper Presentation

Papers can be presented on topics that can come under any of the tracks. The papers must be original and based on your own ideas, practical experience and /or research.

Each presenter must personally present his/her paper on the day of the event. Each presenter should register for the paper presentation well in advance.

Papers and workshops in absentia are not accepted.

Tracks for Paper Presentation:

  1. From Ibsen’s Nora to Rowling’s Hermione: Teaching Feminist Literature

    1. Applying the theory of feminism to a literary text

    2. Understanding feminism through the ages in the light of feminist characters

  2. ‘Found’ in Translation: Teaching Translated Texts in the Classroom

    1. Strategies to compare and contrast the original text with its translation

    2. Unravelling the finer nuances of the original text to appreciate the translation better

  3. Is the Pen truly mightier than the Gun?: Strategies to teach War Literature

    1. Impact of the World Wars on society and literature

    2. Change in form and themes in various genres of literature

    3. Depiction of the glories of chivalry and horrors of war

  4. Coming out of the Closet: Study of LGBTQ Literature

    1. Role of literature in increasing awareness about the LGBTQ community in society and its concerns and issues

    2. Focus on the depiction of characters in LGBTQ literature as a representation of the community

  5. ‘All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others’: Satire in Literature

    1. Instances of sarcasm and wit, irony and humour to mock the established social/political system and revolt against it

  6. Society and Culture: Walking through the Landscape of Drama

    1. Understanding cultures and societies through the eyes of playwrights

    2. Analysing the setting used to bring out the symbolism in plays

  7. Prophecies and the Supernatural: Appreciating the Magic in Literature

    1. Place of prophecies and supernatural elements in society and Literature

    2. Witchcraft and Magic in Literature used as a means to propel the storyline

  8. The Horcrux Syndrome : Exploration of the Autobiographical Elements in Literary Texts

    1. Finding reflections of the real-life features of the author in the literary text

    2. Psychological insights into the author to understand the text better

  9. From Jazz and Blues to The Black Panther: Appreciating Afro-American Literature

    1. Literature as a means to portray the quintessential American story and the thirst to go back to the African roots

    2. Expression of the African culture through values, music and colours

    3. Portrayal of the plight of black women suffering at the hands of not only the whites but also black men

Time allotted:

  1. 15 minutes for presentation

  2. 05 minutes for Q & A

Important Dates

Abstracts not exceeding 400 words should reach us latest by Saturday, December 28, 2018. Decision on the acceptance of the abstracts will be conveyed to the authors by Saturday, January 5, 2018. Approval/acceptance of the abstract will be conveyed within 8-10 working days. Abstracts should be submitted as a word attachment with Subject as Abstract for 2019 conference. Please email it as a new email and not as a trailing email.
