About 2019LC_Nature

An interdisciplinary conference whose research talks feature the measurement and modeling of phenomena in atmospheric and meteorological optics, as well as in the color and brightness of many other visual phenomena seen outdoors (e.g., auroras and airglow, biological colors, colors in and under water, brightness and color of soils and rocks). Since 1978, each Light and Color conference has produced numerous peer-reviewed papers that appear in a later feature issue of the Journal of the Optical Society of America or in Applied Optics.

Topics

Airglow, Rainbows, Halos, Atmospheric coronas, Sky color and polarization, Mirages and atmospheric refraction, Contrast phenomena, Cloud optics, Optics of lightning, Brightness and color of the sun and moon, Colors on and in water, Auroras, Zodiacal light, Green; blue; and red flashes, Colors in biology and geology

Call for Papers

The 2019 Light and Color organizing committee seeks abstracts of original, innovative, and previously unpublished research on the topics listed on the Light and Color in Nature homepage.

Each accepted abstract will be the basis for a 20-minute talk given by its author(s), followed by 5 minutes of questions; there will be no poster session.

As for previous Light and Color in Nature conferences, the committee will review all abstracts before deciding whether to accept them.  All submitted abstracts will be peer-reviewed by 2 referees from the organizing committee.  All abstracts will be rated on their originality, significance, language clarity, and scientific soundness.

To apply, please submit an English-language abstract as an E-mail attachment to  lightandcolorinnature@gmail.com .

Each abstract must:

• be limited to 500 words or fewer,

• fit on at most  2  U. S. letter-size or A4-size pages,

• use font sizes of 12 points or larger,

• be in PDF, doc, or docx file format,

• contain at most  2  color images or technical figures,

• list the proposed talk’s title and author(s),

• list the corresponding author’s E-mail address and any institutional affiliation(s).

The deadline for submitting abstracts is 31 May 2019.  The committee will review each abstract and notify author(s) of its decision by 15 June 2019.  Individual authors or groups may submit more than one proposal, but conference time constraints may limit the number that can be accepted per author or group.
